I think that you are right.The greek word for those people is ''λεξιθήρες'' .In my opinion using pretentious language is a little hm..rιdiculous.

Not necessarily, but if sophisticated language comes out withouth real effort (not like the reply I sent to Domenica to her request for help, she knows, er, well, she might want to publicise it, coz I think I have deleted my PM box), naturally, I mean, then why not use it?

I believe that there is no rule such as "always use sophisticated vocabulary and syntax" or "always speak and write simply". Every occasion and every subject requires different use of the language.

2)Generally I agree with you.When I say ''pretentious language'' I refer to the use of complex,rare and very formal words (while it's not necessary) in order to impress the others(''στομφώδης γλώσσα'' in greek).In my way of thinking this is a bit funny.
